If you have found your way to this page, you already appreciate the power of the voice to communicate thought and feeling. Perhaps you are already determined of finding a way to develop those qualities in your own singing voice.
You also probably appreciate that, although every individual voice is unique, very few voices are remarkable. However, many voices have the potential to become remarkable, and the aim of any vocal studies program is to provide the means of liberating that potential.
Memorable singing has the qualities of directness, authenticity and individuality.
Unfortunately the net result of singing, as it taught in most schools, is to create forced or suppressed or unnatural vocal mannerisms. Poor habits not only reduce the efficiency and sustainability of your vocal performance, they are also a barrier to the full development of your voice and your art.
At the very outset of our work together, we will concentrate on developing your awareness of those vocal habits that are incompatible with the natural development of a fine singing voice.
It will require patience and practice to 'unlearn' these blocks to progress. However, with feedback, demonstration and detailed guidance on the right sensations and auditory cues, you will gradually find a new, and satisfying, vocal normality.
Once you are singing correctly in your middle register, your tonal and dynamic range can be fully developed, over time. You will learn to move freely between registers and rise to the challenge of music with longer phrase structures and wider dramatic and emotional range.
Your training will be mainly in voice production, rather than interpretation and performance - although, inevitably, discussions on performance method will emerge from time to time, as we discuss the specific demands of your chosen repertoire.

The Tutor
Following graduation in music subjects (BA) in 1987, I studied voice production. The intervening decades have brought considerable performing experience, both in recital and in substantial solo roles. |

Existing singers with voice problems, should also note 'Holistic Care of The Performing Voice'. This is usually provided as a structured course for those involved in voice training. However, a practical one-to-one programme for the troubled performer is also available, on application.
